Chris Lazlo

Chris Laszlo, Managing Partner – for ten years was an executive at Lafarge S.A., a world leader in building materials, holding positions as head of strategy, general manager of a manufacturing subsidiary, and vice president of business development. Prior to that he spent 5 years with Deloitte & Touche, where he consulted to global industry leaders. Educated at Swarthmore, Columbia, and the University of Paris, Laszlo earned a Ph.D. in Economics and Management Science. He currently lectures on Sustainable Value at the European business school INSEAD in the Advanced Management Seminar and CEDEP Executive Education programmes. His new book is The Sustainable Company: How to Create Lasting Value through Social and Environmental Performance, Island Press, October 2003.


Bruce Bendix, Associate Partner – has 25 years of strategy and management experience as a consultant and as an executive. He was one of two Senior Executives at Accenture to lead their growth and innovation strategy practice. Bruce has provided strategy consulting to over 30 clients in a variety of industries. This includes computers, software, newspapers, publishing, retail, telecommunications, banking, food distribution, printing, graphics equipment, aerospace, clean-tech, chemicals, waste management, and utilities. He has written several published articles and was a finalist for the Ken Ernst Award for outstanding thought leadership at Accenture. Bruce holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science degree with distinction in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.

Jean-François Laugel, Associate Partner – has twenty years of experience in strategy and finance. He began his career with the international strategy consulting practice of Deloitte Touche. He joined AXA in 1991 as Director in charge of Marketing and Business Strategy. He has also worked as a Senior Director of Oracle and was a Partner in the strategy consulting firm of Corporate Value Associates. He is the co-author with Chris Laszlo of Large Scale Organizational Change: An Executive’s Guide (Butterworth-Heinemann, 2000). He holds a MBA from the University of Chicago and a M.S. from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Dave Sherman, Associate Partner – has 25 years of general management consulting and industry experience. He served as a Vice President with A.T. Kearney and a Principal in the General Management practice of Towers Perrin. He has assisted a wide range of clients with strategy, operations and company transformation in more than a dozen countries in the Americas, Asia and Europe. His industry experience includes positions at Chevron and Exxon where he was involved in design, process engineering, environmental engineering and regulatory affairs. He is currently a Mandel Fellow at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University where he is earning an Executive  Doctorate. He holds an M.B.A. from UC Berkeley and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University.

John Whalen, Associate Partner – has over 20 years of management consulting experience in business strategy, operations strategy, business process design, supply chain integration, change leadership, organizational alignment, organizational learning, and sustainability. He has worked across a wide variety of industries including energy, telecommunications, financial services, retail, and pharmaceuticals, including work with Cable & Wireless, Nextel, American Express, Pfizer, Merck, and Target. Prior to SVP, he led his own successful consulting business focused on leadership development, strategy, and organizational transformation, and was a senior consultant at CSC Index where he helped to develop its business re-engineering practice. He holds a Masters from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame.

Ante Glavas, Consultant – is the Executive Director of the Center for Business as an Agent of World Benefit based at Case Western Reserve University. He is also an organizational consultant who has lived in five countries and worked with close to 100 companies around the world. His work has always focused on using business as a force for world benefit. He led a team that built CBA, the first private graduate business school in Croatia and became its first CEO. Ante also established Horizon, a leadership institute in Croatia which has worked with the leadership development of thousands of individuals and hundreds of organizations in South-Eastern Europe and has since become the largest consulting and education company in the region. He has also worked as a senior manager in Diageo - a Fortune 500 company, and started an organic foods company which he owned and presided over. Ante serves on the boards of various non-profit organizations such as AIESEC. He has received numerous awards for his work contributing to society such as the medal of honor from the President of Croatia for his work contributing to the development of Croatia. Ante is completing his Ph.D. in organizational behavior at Case Western Reserve University.

Nadya Zhexembayeva

Nadya Zhexembayeva, Consultant – serves as associate director at the Center for Business as an Agent of World Benefit, Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, where she is earning her doctorate degree in organizational behavior. Nadya’s research, teaching, and practice centers around organizational design for sustainable value creation, whole-system approaches to managing multi-stakeholder issues, and sustainability within context of emerging economies. She currently lectures at Case Western Reserve University in the US and IEDC Bled School of Management in Slovenia.

John Buffington – Consultant, has worked on sustainability topics with multinational companies, start-up ventures and non-profit organizations.  He has worked with corporations to explore use of superior environmental and social performance to drive business value.   Work with start-up companies and non-profits has centered around the use of environmentally-friendly or appropriate technologies, with a particular emphasis on developing countries.  John received his MBA and Masters in Environmental Management and Policy from the University of North Carolina.  Prior to graduate school, John spent several years working as an environmental management consultant to companies across a number of industries, including chemicals, areospace, food and beverage, oil and gas, and mining.

Mark Major

Marc Major– Consultant, As a sustainable strategy consultant, Marc offers visioning, strategic and operational support for companies wishing to transform to environmental and social sustainability. He presently works as a corporate strategist, business planner, and project manager for a global retailer, with a particular focus on material sourcing, international manufacturing, and product design/marketing. He has also designed and facilitated seminars, trainings and strategy meetings for corporate executives and MBA students. Prior to strategy consulting, he worked in various planning, analysis and training capacities with government agencies and nonprofits. He has published numerous professional articles and an upcoming book, and has extensive international experience, having conducted business and research on 6 continents. He holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, as well as a Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Colorado.

R. Darryl Banks, Associate Partner – specializes in environmental management and corporate sustainability and citizenship issues. He has over 25 years of experience including eight years as Deputy Commissioner for Environmental Quality at the New York State Department of Environmental Quality and subsequently as Director of Environment and Technology Program and Senior Fellow at the World Resources Institute where his group focused on strategic corporate environmental issues, including groundbreaking work on environmental accounting and environmental performance metrics. He was also a Vice president and Senior Consultant at CH2M HILL in the Management Systems Practice. He was a Rhodes Scholar and read for a Doctorate in Biochemistry at Oxford University and holds a Chemistry degree from Coe College.

Jib Ellison, Associate Partner – is Managing Partner of Blu Skye Sustainability Consulting. He has led recent engagements blending effective strategy development and execution with leader development for senior leadership teams at McKesson, Nokia, Oracle, Barclays and Gap Inc. His interest in building competitive advantage through sustainability strategies comes from work with senior leadership at The Home Depot, The Natural Step and his deep love of nature that comes from a lifetime of organizing expeditions down the world's wildest rivers. He currently is working on sustainable supply chain practices for a large global retailer and is the organizer of the Business and Biodiversity Council for Conservation International.

Robert S. Faron, Associate Partner – Robert S. Faron has over 25 years of legal and consulting experience in energy and environmental law, insurance, regulatory representation. He currently is the energy practice leader with Project Performance Corporation, an energy and environmental project and knowledge management firm. Mr. Faron was Assistant General Counsel at Amerada Hess Corporation and Deputy Assistant General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Mr. Faron was also a Senior Advisor with a leading energy management consulting firm where he provided environmental management services to corporate clients. Mr. Faron received a J.D. from Columbia University Law School and a B.S. in Engineering from Princeton University.

Joseph Rinkevich, Associate Partner - has worked to identify links between sustainability and competitive advantage for over 15 years. Joe supports his clients’ efforts to find new sources of business value by optimizing internal and external systems for environmental and sustainability attributes. From 1996 until July 2004, Joe helped establish and grow the award-winning product and process design consultancy, MBDC. As the firm’s Vice President of Client Relations and Business Tools, Joe led a multi-disciplinary team in supporting ongoing and new client relationships as well as advancing MBDC’s business and product development efforts. Prior to MBDC, Joe lived and worked in Asia doing research and writing on global environmental issues for several international NGOs. In addition to his current consulting projects, Joe participates in the EPA-funded electronics product design tool project known as EPEAT as well as being a contributor to the Leadership Lab at MIT's Sloan School of Management and various programs at the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia. Joe earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill and a Master of Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia.
